Les Miserables is a hard slog. And yes, I skipped swaths of it. But am I glad I tackled this 1500 page monstrosity? Yes. Being a fan of the stage musical, I knew what to expect. The book did not disappoint. I could not hold back the tears at the end. NOTE: There are different versions/editions of this great work. This is easily the most complex, moving and thought provoking book I've ever read since Crime and Punishment. It was hard wading through some of its parts, but the journey was beautiful and totally worthwhile. I think I'll read it again at some point in the future.
