I feel like I'm Nick as I read this book. I dislike Tom and Daisy, and I sympathize with Gatsby. He is someone I would love to have as a friend. Wilson, he is suck a weak man - in both mind and body. If he wasn't the one that pulled the trigger, he might have my sympathy.

I get the themes. I get that the romance story is just veiling the soiling of the American dream, materialism etc. I get it. And I don't care. I can appreciate the turn of phrase. It could be that when it came out it was showcasing something fresh, but I don't think time has been kind to the novel. I didn't particularly care of any of the characters, and found the story average. The whole novel comes across as naive to me, but maybe that's point.
