Coming back to this book after almost 10 years as a mature person with a very different eye and view of the world really hits differently, I still think it's fucked up and just sad but it's all true and coming to be, or it's happening while I'm writing this right now, the world is actually that bad if not worst, did Orwell see into the future or he just felt that history will repeat itself?

Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

I do believe this book is overrated in terms of being a novel. As a novel it is quite average and at some points it is actually below average. However, I do understand the fascination of the scary portrayal of world gone wrong. But it is published as a novel and then it has to be judged as a novel. Unfortunately, the first 2/3 part of the book is full of plot holes and irrational behavior of the characters.
