I read this classic way back in my Freshman English days in college and didn't really appreciate it at the time, perhaps due to the length and looming report coming due. Re-reading it as a mature adult, I found it a bit ponderous, and while Dostoyevsky does an excellent job of developing the characters and often overly-emotional intricacies of filial interaction, it nonetheless takes a good bit of self-discipline to get through it. Reading the classic work, The Brothers Karamazov was an enriching experience. It can be regarded as a novel with epic features; through the story of the Karamazov family, the writer discusses the sociopolitical and religious ideas that constitute the Russian society during his time.
