This is another book in the same vein of 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' and 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time', where the main protagonist is a teenage who has some sort of learning disability and other things I suppose.

The novel is a series of letters to an unknown character, which I didn't mind, although I don't think it particularly adds to the story. Differently to the books mentioned, I enjoyed this story far more. I think it's because it's not just the simplicity of

The story reminds me of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid minus the innocence. Charlie, the author of the diary or letters, takes us to his everyday life and how he seems to be just more of a viewer rather than a doer. The story takes us to mainstream high school drama and scenarios, in which Charlie is always in the background of things and not actually living his life the way it should be. I liked this book. I liked the characters, even turning some of them into people I know (sorry, folks). My only complaint is that the letters-to-an-unknown friend format seemed unnecessary and was distracting; it felt like the literary equivalent of those TV shows featuring camera crews hanging around to make a "documentary." And I felt a little ripped off in the end, as the epilogue revealed big secrets that maybe would have been better developed throughout the story instead of just told to us ...more
