Sometimes funny, sometimes emotional, this is a very touching novel. We follow the coming of age of young Charlie and, to a certain extent, his friends, in the not so distant world of the 1990s. Personnally, I was really drawn to Charlie, his high intelligence and his sensitivity, and some of the things written really resonated in me.
I expected a different ending, but that one was brilliantly executed, although I wish we could have followed our protagonists a little while longer.

Intimate book and look at the life and experiences of a troubled and a typical teenager. Loved it. Loved the importance given to the arts.

I enjoyed this book as a teen for it's earnestness, and as a springboard to find great books, music and movies.
I enjoyed re-reading it today for it's subtle and gentle portrayal of depression, anxiety, and coping with emotional trauma.
Either way, for such a short "easy" book, there's plenty of value in picking it up. ...more
