Really beautifully written. Somehow, I couldn't hate Emma even though she was an adultress with impossible expectations who didn't realize what she had. Flaubert still managed to make her, at the very least, pitiable for me. Charles, though he was technically the victim, I couldn't have much sympathy for. It was such a reverse of emotions for me, and I found myself frustrated with my response, but I appreciate that Flaubert crafted characters that go against conventional stereotypes and challeng
