This is definitely an interesting read, but I get the impression that the author wanted me to have a stronger reaction to the fact that they are donors. It is very English in comparison to the film the Island which explors something very similar. The difference lies in that the book is really about a love story but one of acceptance and resignation. This book is the 3rd by Ishiguro that I have read and all are good. His writing story is distinctive. In each, there is a primary protagonist who has a story to tell. His or her story is the book. It is a quiet story. There is no cliffhanger or suspense here. But in each, or at least in two of the three, the story is disquieting in a number of respects but this aspect is revealed only slowly over the course of the book.
