4.5/5
In this story about love, friendships, and the loss of innocence, Kath reflects on her life growing up in Hailsham boarding school and in the Cottages housing development with her best friends Ruth and Tommy. Together they struggle with the purpose of their existence and discover the meaning of humanity.

2.5 stars rounding up to 3 because the ending redeemed the rest of the book. I struggled more with the style of writing than anything else. The stream-of-consciousness in prose form was harder than I imagined. I also had very little buy in to the characters which, now that I think about it, adds a bit to the bitter sweetness of the story.
What I did enjoy was that the controversial and, thus, fun to discuss subject matter. I always love a good thinker.
In the end, decidedly meh.
