Ah, The Shining. I actually have never read a Stephen King book until now. And now that I have: what took me so long?! Oy!

When I heard we were in for a snow storm I thought- what better time to read The Shining? The book had a bit of a slow start. This King fellow is super into character development. Something I appreciate. But at the same time…I could have used a little less. Usually, I'm all about books being better than the movie, but every once in a while I'll come across an exception. This was one of them. I guess the biggest issue was that I didn't find the book to be nearly as frightening as the movie. The animal-shaped-killer-shrubs were impossible to take seriously and Jack's lengthy conversations with imaginary bartenders weren't all that interesting.
