This book gave me chills.
Really, really gross if you take it as a story about kids. It's not about kids, it's about people.
I seriously feel like the story could have taken place in any number of settings. Work, school or any other social group where people have to organize themselves and don't do it very well.
(Ok, I'm not talking about the murder, graphic killing scenes although that definitely could be component.)

It took me about three tries to get into this book. Once I did get it read, I found it to be a remarkable study of human nature. There are many revelations of human nature and the structure of leadership, the use of power and the necessity of government. I teach this book every year and the students love it.
