This the sweet story of Charly a mentally retarded adult. A doctor thinks he has found a treatment Charly's disablity.
In a series of treatments Charly and the mouse Algernon undergo the same operations. Both mouse and man make the same progression in treatment. This is all I will say without spoiling anything.
The author does an excellent job of writing in the POV of Charly.

This is a great book. Definitely a tearjerker.
I'd been wanting to read this book for years, and I finally got around to it. While it is predictable, it is still worth the read. With most books you feel cheated when you know the outcome. But the important part of this book is Charlie's struggle throughout his expereince. It raises a lot of questions about scientific experiments on humans, family, memory, and so much more. ...more
