This is one of my favorite of Pynchon's novels. The setting indulges his wit and his whimsy: Mason and Dixon engage the reader as characters, and their adventures provide a whole new perspective on 18th century America and the development of the American character. The book invites rereading (I've read it twice), and I look forward to opening it again.

One of his best along with Gravity's Rainbow and Against the Day.
Second "read" was audio book with fantastic narration. Great way to experience this a second time. ...more
