Thanks to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book took me awhile to get through! I got confused often with what was going on with the plot between past and present and wish it had been written a little differently.

There were some beautiful parts and I learned about the experiences of Syrians during this war time.

This was a great book that I probably would have missed out on if it hadn't been for the Bookclub for Introverts. it's the story of a husband, who used to be a beekeeper, and his wife, who have had to leave their war-torn home in Aleppo, Syria in an attempt to join up with his fellow beekeeper and cousin, who has already gotten out to England with his family.

The story is both moving and harrowing, and gives a real insight into what most of the refugees have had to go through to escape their grav

Lefteri captures the confusion, the sadness, and the dying hope of these Syrian refugees who make their way to Athens and ultimately to England seeking asylum. It's a very powerful story and very well told. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because I was often confused between what was really happening and what Nuri thought was happening. I lost my own way through the book, mirroring how the characters continually lost their own way on their journey towards asylum. ...more
