This was a hard review to write. I was not one of those people who loved it, but it wasn’t bad. Sally Rooney showed every aspect of relationships and just how much work it goes into it. But this was so much more than just the relationship. They had to deal with depression, addiction, and bullying, among others. The characters (for me) were easy to connect with but they were hard to love. It frustrated me that they did not communicate the best. But if they did it would have been a completely diff ...more

I found this book very interesting because it deals with real everyday problems teenagers encounter during their high school years. Marianne Sheridan has changed ever her father passed away, some say she has a mental illness. I personally think the unfortunate situation affected her enormously. Cornell Waldron's mother works in the household of Sheridan's family. Cornell knows Marianne because they go to school. Cornell is the popular guy who is in the sports team, he's hesitating on what to stu ...more

Marianne and Connell meet each other in high school, but pretend to not know one another. Marianne does not care about being popular or care about anyone’s opinion. Most people perceive her as weird. It's undeniable that Sally Rooney is a great writer. I'm giving this 3 stars because the characters and their toxic relationship was infuriating. She definitely achieved what she set out to do which is why I'm not sure if this should be a 4 star, but personally I didn't enjoy the experience of reading it. Books like this one I'm just shocked at how they are so popular, I think we all just really want to feel something which is why we like these sorts of books. Their relationship just proves that ...more

I had heard such mixed reviews in this book that I was anxious to discover it for myself. I am kind of I. The middle of the road on this one. The main characters were interesting, I enjoyed following them through the years, but they frustrated me a bit as well. I liked the book, but it didn’t touch my own emotions in any way but the frustration. I can easily see why some people loved it and why some hated it.
