The conflict at the center of this story was one that I could see coming from quite a ways away, but I still ended up being pulled into it and moved by it. It even brought me unexpectedly to tears at the end. The author's depiction of life on a completely isolated island caring for a lighthouse was lovely and readable. This isn't the best written book I've read in a while, but it had plenty to offer in the way of interest and well crafted story. ...more

Life is a series of choices. Most are mundane, and done out of habit without thought of consequences. There are ones that arise and you realize the impact a choice will have on your life and those around you. Sometimes you make the wrong choice. And when you do the best you're able at the time. That's the choice. This was one of those choices. Well-woven story that over time has you routing for those who made the wrong choice. ...more
