This was an absolutely thrilling and compulsively readable story, and I think people that don't read as many thrillers as I do will be 100% blown away by the big reveal and the lead-up to it. That being said, I do feel that I would've enjoyed it even more, had I not read Shutter Island and Before I Go To Sleep (and other similar stories). I wasn't as surprised by the big twist - in fact, I kind of figured it out earlier than I wanted to.
Still, this was a solid, top-shelf thriller with a really ...more

I don't know what possessed me when I started reading this book, but I had a feeling that the narrator, Theo, wasn't going to be a character to rely on.
The novel starts out with the reader reading through a journal entry by Alicia, who you find out is the "silent patient." She is silent because she has been locked away in a psych ward for supposedly killing her husband, a famous photographer. Alicia is famous as well, for her life-like paintings.

I really liked this book! I work in the medical field, so I loved the medical aspect to the plot with the main character being silent following a horrific incident. I thought the author used the imagery in the scenes where she is painting or where they are describing her paintings well and I thought it added nicely to the details of the plot. I wanted to really enjoy this book. But unfortunately it was one of those 'I guessed it halfway through' and I had to plow my way forcibly to finish the last third.
I did enjoy all of the Euripides references, and I did like that Theo didn't actually murder anyone, but gave the husband the option, of which he chose poorly. Other than that, I was hoping for a Book Thief and got more of Girl on a Train. Which a lot of other people would like, but I have had quite enough of.
