A rare book. The power of the prose fills the thinness of the characters and makes you disregard the ambivalence of the plot. Reading it the first time around, I'm not sure how many people would realise who Somon's killers are or that the beast is actually a dead pilot. But then that is in itself a testament to a true classic, a book that you have to re-read. I had to go back and add stars to this book. Mainly because I still think of it and how much it pulls me to read it again. This is one classic that will always be on my bookshelf. I can not give a more detailed review since it has been so long since I read it. Yet I will always treasure it. I think what may have made me have lower stars in the beginning was the brutality in it. As I age I know there are lessons in the brutality that my younger self didn’t recognize nor want to know of.
