This is probably one of the best pieces of fiction I've ever read. The writing (or translation of it) is so good and the story is so perfectly paced. You can feel as if you can see every single character and their experiences right before you.

At times humourous; at times political; a love story; explorations of theology; this is really an all-encompassing a tale of the foibles of human behaviour.
