I just finished re-reading this one, and got much more out of it this time around. So much of it isn't about the romance (which in my opinion leaves much to be desired), but rather about character. Each of the characters has some level of religiosity, or lack thereof, and Jane's interactions with them all show how much is external nonsense and how much is true heart of moral character and of true compassion toward others.
