So glad this will be on television. A worthy fun read that I couldn’t put down! This author did it again

Oh boy.
This was so good. I read it in like 6/7 hours.

- Firstly, I’ve seen this book everywhere and never thought I’d read it as it’s just not my genre. But then I saw the movie interview with the actors on E News and I was intrigued.
- This was an explosion of emotions and passion.
- I liked how the characters’ recounts sometimes clashed. It made it feel more realistic. E.g. when Daisy and Billy would talk of the same event and say absolutely different things about it.
- The humor was top notch!

- Funny enough, *Warren* was one of my favorites! Despite his floating-through-life personality and super humorous parts, he really held his own many times. Like when the journalist thought he was the weak link to tap information, and he was so solid.
- I was up and down in my feelings about Daisy, as the author clearly intended. Liking her one moment, being super annoyed with her the next, wishing her damnation in the next, and then sympathizing with her. But she redeemed herself in the end.
- I was rooting for Billy from the start and really liked him, but now that I’m done, I see that he could be self-righteous sometimes. I think if the author wasn’t constantly whispering it in readers’ ears through Eddie’s comments—and sometimes Graham’s—I wouldn’t have thought Billy was self-righteous at all. But the author wanted to keep things well rounded and dynamic.
- I adored Camila completely. A wonderful woman. Even though she showed more faith and love than I can imagine. Imagine giving your husband a time gap to cheat. She’s lucky he shaped up for her and their family.
- the start of Billy and Camila’s love story was super cute.
- I really liked Graham during the first 70%, but after, the author made his character feel too whiny. I still liked him, but not as much. The same with Karen. She was cool at first, but later felt very mid.
- There were a lot of awesome characters here; like Teddy and Rod.
- there was a splendid attention to detail in how the music was explained. It could almost feel like you were hearing it. Or no, not hearing it, but feeling the emotions they would evoke if you *could* hear them. I did get a bit tired of all the music production talk at some point in the middle though.
- The aesthetic of this book was PERFECT. You could feel the time; the grit, the color, the vibe of this time period and setting.
- It was realistic and emotional, but I didn’t love how Billy got to love two women—who were kind of willing to share him (in an emotional sense)—and they each only got to love him.
- I wished Karen could’ve loved Graham, but I’m glad they all had their happily ever after.
- As a creative myself, I learned a lot about accepting the production process and how much input comes in, changing much of your original idea even, before the finished product is put out. I learned that it might be hard to accept and feel threatening even, but that’s just how it’s done.

I’ll say that one ‘copout’ of this book is the writing style. When you’re writing flashbacks, scenes move faster and draw up excitement, and this entire book was one big flashback with events summarized. There’s always that excitement in books when readers learn what came before—or what brought characters to the point they are now. If everyone was allowed to write like this, no one would need to adhere to ‘telling and not showing’ and other writing techniques shoved down writer’s throats. So the style definitely gave it a big boost in terms of pacing.

Ultimately, that was just what I needed to bump me out of a potential slump! 5 stars! ...more

This book reminds me why I dislike contemporary so much.

The plot was boring. All it was was sex, drugs, and bad behaviour. The characters weren't much better. I remember a grand total of three - Daisy, Billy, and Karen. Daisy was a manic pixie dream girl, a trope that I particularly dislike, Billy was just a terrible person, and Karen was the only one I actually liked.

I think you have to have faith in someone before they earn it. Otherwise it’s not faith, right?

Wow. I'm glad our book club picked this because I can't imagine I ever would have read it on my own. First of all, the audio version is a must. Judy Greer is Karen, from the Halloween franchise to this. I don't think I can watch the TV adaptation of this solely because she will not be Karen and I don't think I could watch anyone else try. Como si hubiese visto "Almost Famous" ...
La verdad que lo he disfrutado un montón, a los Six ante mis ojos puede ser una banda real sacada de los 70´s, con todo lo que conllevaba la fama; sexo, drogas, fiesta y con todo lo que conlleva el amor por la música (creatividad).

Shelves: good-but-not-as-good-as-expected, stand-alone, historical

I go back and forth on how to rate this, but I'm settling for 3.5 stars and rating up. I can see what this book was doing and I think it did it very well. Reid is a great author and she wrote this incredibly well. However, it just wasn't for me. I can definitely see why people love this book and why it's so popular.
