Definitely not one of Hemingway's stronger works, this book, while possessing some stirring passages about the tolls of war and its dehumanizing aspects and the quick erosion of patriotism and idealism under the realities of the 'great war', isn't as powerful as it could be. And, I am sorry to say, it's due to the faults in Hemingway's writing.

I absolutely loved The Sun Also Rises, but I had a tough time getting into this book. I ended up kind of liking it. I'm glad I read it, but it was tough.

I don't know why I'd never read this novel before - vintage/quintessential Hemingway.
