I heard a lot of buzz about this one at BEA and its been consistently getting good reviews. I think part of the genius of this novel is the atmosphere that the author creates and the sense of setting. Hannah Kent truly makes Iceland come alive for the reader. The novel is stark and fairly slow in terms of momentum but it definitely comes together at the end. I was never bored but I did feel that it was a fairly slow read. Stark, slow and yet compelling.
