I am vacillating between 3 stars and 4 for this one. I loved the concept of this memoir (slacker American and girlfriend move to tiny island in the South Pacific for her job), and the insights into life in this remote country. And it is very funny. But he does occasionally get stranded in passages of history that, for me, are too long and meandering.

So for now I am going with 3 Stars, but the advisement that if this is your kind of book, it is a fun read!

This was another book (like The Big Year) that I did not know was nonfiction until I was quite a ways into it. Getting a book through the inter-library loan has done that to me--I have no idea where the book comes from on the shelves because it just appears at my branch with my name on it. I enjoyed this book a lot and will probably recommend it to various people.

Some parts of this book were hysterical. An overall funny read about culture shock and transitions.
