I don't really remember when I finished this one, or when I started it, but sheet le merde! I just loved it!
And that's understable, as I enjoy a darn good western.
This, IMO, was something like a McCarthy (is that his name - not sure). It had all the suspense and entertainment, and yes - the violence.
But it was so humorous, I tended to forget that I don't like violent stories.
Cormac - yeah, that's it. And I just contradicted myself, 'cause I sure do like Cormac's writing too.

I really enjoyed this quirky, entertaining tale of two brothers/killers set in CA/OR during the gold rush. Eli, the younger brother, is having second thoughts about the career path he is on, suffers from a large degree of romanticism, and feels guilty about some of the deeds he and his brother have committed. This was well written, and Charlie and Eli well developed, but the story just wasn't that interesting to me. Sometimes I like a book that slowly meanders, but this got too slow for me.

Clever and witty and yet somehow insubstantial. The narrator's voice made the trip well worthwhile, however.
