I had a lot of difficulty rating this one. One the one hand, I did really enjoy the story and found the intellectual writing style of the narrator to be frequently amusing. On the other hand, the writing sometimes crawled up its own butt (to be totally--but in this case necessarily--crude) and while the story was compelling, I never felt a sense of urgency to pick up this book every time I put it down, which is why it took me three months to read. I just have no idea how to rate this book. It was SO similar to (and slightly derivative of) The Secret History that I simultaneously want to rate it higher and lower than it deserves. It is very densely written, full of literary, history and art references. The sentence structure is complicated. But it isn't actually a difficult read - the story is straightforward and the vocabulary is not so advanced as to be distracting.

Much like my reaction to the author's book Night Film, I am so impressed
