What an incredible and sad story about the Occupation in France and how it changes a young girl's life forever; I often found it difficult to put the book down once I had started reading. I like how de Rosnay interweaves past and present in the telling of Sarah's story. As a reader, I experienced a great deal of emotion because of the horrific topics explored, but I think that is what makes it such a fantastic book. ...more

Sarah's Key enlightened me regarding the historical French round-up of Jews on June 16, 1942. This was an event I was unaware of, which is often overlooked in history. The novel alternates between the story of Sarah, who was forever affected by this fateful day; and the modern story of Julia, an American journalist living in Paris, who uncovers some of the mystery surrounding Sarah and what happened to her family.

I liked the alternating stories, the intertwining of the past and present. I was ve

I really liked this book - it was very, very good. Particularly Sarah's story which pulled me in from the first sentence and didn't let go. I had never heard of Vel D'Hiv roundup before this novel and was drawn to the story of Sarah and her family as it weaved through the book. Amazing. The modern story accompanying Sarah's story was not nearly as engaging but I did enjoy the contrast. Julia was not nearly as compelling as Sarah but it was interesting how Tatiana de Rosnay blended the stories th ...more

This book was eye-opening. I know about the Holocaust, I've seen movies about the Holocaust, but this was different. Maybe being a mother with children the same age as two of the children in the book is what personalized this for me so much. It was a good book, but, oh the blow to the gut that I received as I read...may everyone be held in God's loving arms when they have passed on, and I have to believe that God's numbs us through pain and suffering... ...more

Excellently told story. It is about WWII jew round up in France in 1942. It follows the story of a survivor through the eyes of a journalist. De Rosnay weaves a poignant tale.

This story alternates between 1942 and the near present day. It is a story revealed to us as two families are linked between time and a secret. From the beginning you want to know all about Sarah and her family and the not much told story of the French officers who helped the Germans round up the Jews. Very sad and enlightening story.
