Billy Pilgrim is a man who comes unstuck in time, and experiences events in his life out of order, including the bombing of Dresden during WWII, and his abduction by aliens called the Tralfamadorians.
I appreciate the anti-war qualities of this book. And, it was enjoyable enough to read. But I'm not seeing it as the amazing work of art the world expects me to. This made a lot more sense than when I watched the movie years ago. I'll have to watch it again now that I understand more. Being antiwar myself, I appreciated Vonnegut's antiwar theme. With everything going on in this country right now, war is even more terrifying, and right now seems more imminent than ever. This quote from the book reminds me that the ideology of certain people currently in power in this country is very similar to the enemy powers in WWII.

Slaughterhouse-Five sets out to protest war without glorifying it, and it succeeds in accomplishing that task. Vonnegut can find no answer for mankind's decisions to commit gross violence against its own kind, except in the meaningless song of a bird: "Poo-tee-weet?" He purposely does not develop his characters with any depth, a decision that works because it signifies the toll that war takes on the individual.
