This is a good precursor to In Search of Lost Time. The book is set up into ten or so chapters, each corresponding to an area of experience—suffering, perception, relationships, and so forth. It sounds wishy-washy, and, in places, it is, but it's also clever and full of lovely quotes from Proust's oeuvre—quotes from Proust the author, Proust the columnist, and Proust, the man of letters.
