The Homecoming is the second book in a duology, but is easily read as a standalone. The author does a good job of sprinkling information into the story from book 1. I related better to Shawn Collins than Katherine Townsend who several times jumps to conclusions that create issues, but I enjoyed the story of watching them figure out what to do with their growing feelings. Dan Walsh has a nice way of including just the right amount of period details and historical backdrop, which freed me to enjoy the story, the characters, and the writing. This is a heartwarming story but never simplistic or sappy. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Excellent historical details that made me feel as if I were walking with the characters. Very charming story.

Much needed & desired (by me!) Sequel to The Unfinished Gift. I love The UG and was thrilled to learn Walsh had continued the story in The Homecoming. Like the first book, this one did a number on my emotions.. so very moving. But I also love that Walsh allows the reader see the character's struggles with life and with faith.
