What an absolute surprise. This book felt so authentic to me. It is a story about a war romance that isn't as much romantic as heart wrenching. Two people, totally alone in the world, find each other in the most war torn part of Iraq; an American Marine and an Iraqi prostitute. Somehow when you hear of the wars being fought in the Middle East, it is easy to forget the civilian casualty -- the innocence lost as we worry about whether our rental car will have an iPod hookup. ...more

I enjoyed this story SO much! It was such a beautiful story of love that crosses all boundaries. In a war-torn country, two people, Hunter and Raina, cross paths. Both have known deep heartache and loss and have see much in their short lives. I got lost in their world, watching their love grow and blossom, worrying every second that something, or someone, would come in to destroy it all before it could ever be fully realized. I liked this book OK, it didn't blow my mind, parts were pretty depressing. It did have some hot moments toward the end, but not a book I would ever read again.
