This book totally surprised me by how easily it pulled me into the story and made me care about what happened to Layken & Will. The emotional pull of the two star-crossed young lovers was very realistic and compounded by the events of the other story in the book surrounding Lake's mother. I think the thing I loved most about the book was the poetry tho - so emotional & raw & intense.

Words cannot express my love for Slammed. Everything about this novel was spectacular. I feel in love with the characters almost instantly and just kept wanting more and more. I felt like I was living life along with Will and Lake and everything that they felt I would feel too. So much intensity but in such a good way. This book was sooo good!! I laughed, I cried, I hated boys, and loved Will!!!! Slammed was not at all what I expected, but I was very pleased. Its about how life just sucks sometimes and no matter how hard it "slams" you, you have to keep going if you want to live it!!
