What Members Thought

My love of indie authors has grown exponentially after reading The Opportunist. I feel it is my responsibility to tell everyone I know to read this story. I am emotionally spent and brokenhearted. This is what happens when fear and mistrust build a barrier so high it is almost impossible for anything to overcome it. I love Olivia, I want to be her friend. She is flawed, impulsive, selfish, she is real. I fell in love with Olivia and Caleb, and desperately hoped for them to find their way back to ...more

"I think that after the first time you give your heart away, you never get it back. The rest of your life is just you pretending that you still have a heart."
There is nothing that frustrates me more than unanswered questions and nothing I hate more than wasted time. This book has an abundance of both. I wanted to shake the main characters until they started to make sense. I really feel the need to scream my frustrations into the heavens over this book! I mean REALLY THAT IS THE ENDING?????? ...more

Thoughts upon finishing: How is it possible to write such a conflicting, horribly awesome epilogue? I want to congratulate you and shake you something fierce at the same time.. I must have more!!!!
Ok...5 very much so love/hate stars. I gave this a high rating because it elicited so much emotion from me.
I felt like a fish out of water with this one. I flipped and flopped back and forth, frustrated for most of this book. I couldn't decide what should happen, what was going to happen, futher more ...more

A friend let me borrow this book, stating how much she loved it. The premise sounded interesting, and being that I was laid up with the flu, I decided to read it in just a few sittings.
I did not feel strongly about this book. The writing was not bad, but I didn't feel this book held any surprises or twists. I predicted almost all of it. I also feel that the author dropped the ball on the ending. She could've ended it on a bang, but for whatever reason she chose not to.

I just don't know what to say. I loved this book because of the emotions it pulled out of me. I'm so devastated by the ending of this book, but I'm conservatively optimistic about the sequel - and especially the third book in the trilogy in Caleb's POV.
I did love Caleb, but I blame him just as much as Olivia for what happened. I was annoyed that he didn't seem to take any responsibilities for his actions and blamed Olivia for everything.

WOW. WOW. AND WOW! emotional roller coaster alert!
spanning several years with a good interplay between the past and present, the author throws you head first into a washing machine of emotional turmoil, angst, anger, pain, and shock. and the life lessons learned as a result--gah! i am completely and painfully heartbroken over them. that last chapter and epilogue ripped my heart out. i can't even stop thinking about this book. a new favorite. ...more

I've heard such good things about this book and decided to give it a read. The synopsis got me right away. It sounded like the perfect plan right..getting someone you used to have back because they can't remember you? Seriously, that is a great story line for a book.
Okay, the characters. I love them and hate them. Olivia is so manipulative, that at times I hated her for what she was doing to Caleb & then I loved her for her boldness and for trying to get back what she lost. Caleb is like everyon ...more

What a whirlwind! I can't say that I like Olivia or even think she has any redeemable qualities but the writing and the secondary characters really make the book great!
