Violet Eyes in Once Upon a Time

Really I'd give this book 3.5 stars. I did enjoy this book and I realize about a year ago it would've been mty favorite. I've matured and I find the story a little more childish and silly then I used to. Then again I started really reading classics and have seen the worst and the best of books. I enjoyed the basic story but I started to notice the author would throw randon things into the book. It's a retelling of the Princess and the Pea so obviously there is going to be a Princess and a pea. O Really I'd give this book 3.5 stars. It's a retelling of the Princess and the Pea so obviously there is going to be a Princess and a pea. Ok so what happens is, Celeste and Violet are the last two in the contest for Prince Richard. The last challenge is the girls have to sleep on this giant bed made of matresses so Celeste finds a pea under her matress and shows it to the queen Violet finds nothing though she slept very little and had nightmares. The Queen then says. Celeste was cold hearted enough to check under her matress for something and that she couldn't have possibly felt it through all the matresses... and the pea is a magical nightmare pea. Seriously, you can't in my opnion just throw magic randomly into a book it needs to be a constant thing or the incident very well thought through and engaging not some random nightmare pea. Something to consider when putting magic into books is,will it effect what I have already written? With this unknown magic source couldn't the king and queen won the war against Lore without fighting? Would Violet have been uncovered much quicker? Would they, with this pea, torture their enemies with conssitent nightmares? There is so much more to think about now after this one instant. Another thing I didn't quite enjoy was the girls friendship. I would've wished for more ccharacter in each of them. Like for example Goldie becoming sensitive teary quiet one in the competitetion, who desperately needs a friend, Genieve the friendly overly-enthuasticastic one (this book seemed to lack one of those). Arrianna's character was fine and so was Celeste. I would've liked more competetion for Richard then just throne like maybe getting more info on Ruth and making her despeately in love with Richard so when she doesn't get him she cries and Violet befriends her or she falls in love with some servant or such. I know thi review is very scrambled, sorry. I would've liked a servant to have fallen in love with Violet to give Ruth someone to love after all that she's sacrificed and give the reader that full happy ending. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed this book but it needed to be more thought through, like my coach always says with free throws "Take your time." So much more could've happended in this book that didn't. As far as continuing this series I think I will because I only have two books left and want to finish the series off. What would the point be of reading 12 books in a series and not reading the last two. ...more

Violet Eyes was really cute. Silly and kind of dumb, but cute. It's not one of my favorite Once Upon a Time books, but I still really liked it. It's short and sweet. I read it in a couple of hours; it was a nice little escape into a beautiful romantic fairytale.
