This was one of those books when I saw the cover it did not pull me in but once I saw it appearing on so many blogs as a Waiting on Wednesday pick I finally read the summary and immediately put it on my wish list. I love dystopian stories and although life isn't necessarily horrible for people living in this time it is pretty mind blowing to read about a society in which it's acceptable for teenagers to try to get pregnant as often as possible.

Last month I reviewed Wither by Lauren DeSt 3.5 stars

I love dystopian stories and although life isn't necessarily horrible for people living in this time it is pretty mind blowing to read about a society in which it's acceptable for teenagers to try to get pregnant as often as possible.

Last month I reviewed Wither by Lauren DeStefano, which I really enjoyed. Both these books had a similar core issue. A virus was causing a down turn in population because in Wither the men and women were automatically dying at a young age and in this book they were becoming infertile at a young age. So I was curious how Megan McCafferty was going to weave her world and if there would be any similarities. I have to give her credit that she spun a very different society than DeStefano and yet it was so well built that it was a little creepy. Instead of pro-abstinence or safe sex there were advertisements every where for teenagers to get "bumped" and how it's a source of pride to get pregnant early and often.

Everything was pretty predictable. You know how Zen really feels about Melody and you have an idea of what will happen between Melody, Harmony and Jondoe but that doesn't keep you from being glued to this book. Initially some of the characters felt a little flat like Harmony was so one dimensionally preachy that it was hard to really relate to her but about half way through the book you start to see the complexities to her character. Melody starts off similarly until the story really dives into the pressure she is feeling from her friends, parents and society in general to have sex and deliver a baby before she is past her prime.

My main problem with this book was the fact that it ends in a way that you know there will be a sequel and if it follows the trend of other YA books most likely at least a trilogy. I felt that it could have been nicely tied up as a standalone book. I'm really getting tired of books always being a part of a series these days. Well I have to admit I was desperate to get my hands on this book, but I wasn't totally sure why. Yeah its got a cool yet plain cover and I've seen it pop up all over the blogosphere but I wasn't sure it was something I would really like. I am a huge paranormal fan who is only recently dipping my toes into the dystopian pool, and this book is kinda written about a touchy subject. To my pleasant surprise though I really enjoyed it. Shelves: young-adult, dystopian-post-apocalyptic

First impressions: I love the language in this book. Right away, Megan McCafferty sets us up in a new time with new slang. Personally, I tend to say "for serious" a LOT in real life, so it tickled me every time I saw it here. McCafferty does a great job of grounding us in this alternate time so we feel comfortable right away.

First off, I am majorly into dystopian books these days. So I went into this book with very high hopes. And I was not disappointed.

First off I think that the title is perfect. After you read the book you will totally know why. And the cover works. It might not be as stunning as Wither or Matched. But it is pefect for this book and this story.

This book was 16 and Pregnant on drugs. That show is my guilty pleasure but if the world would honestly come to a point where teenagers see babies as a commercial product, I think we should all kill ourselves right now. Humanity at its worse, I would say.

I found this an easy read. It had an interesting premise and I think it was defiantly a 'starter' book. I think it was mainly laying the steps for the next book, it felt like it had a beginning, middle and that's it.. No ending. At least not in my perspective. I was more along the lines of 'Wait that's it?' It's just.... feels like a first unfinished draft.
