Really enjoyed this - it was a glimpse into a life that is so very different from mine; but at the same time, focuses on the same process that everyone has growing up - how to differentiate themselves from their first family. Invariably, there are some decisions you make as an adult child that are at odds with your upbringing. Usually not as pronounced as Westover's but still something that is not hard to relate to. ...more

This book shines a light on the devastating effects mental illness can have on an entire family and generations to come. It tells a story of love, family, betrayal, ignorance, shame, violence, success, strength, hope, courage, and so much more. Very inspirational
