This book was very disappointing since it was chosen as the Iowa All Iowa Reads book. I am disturbed on many levels that this book would represent Iowa in general, when I feel that the author didn't really 'get' Iowa. Even as she dealt with the farm crisis of the 1980's she glossed over the trauma that the entire state felt at the time and summed most of it up in a drinking incident at the farm sale of a distant relative, and a tire slashing incident.
