So i got this book yesterday 3/7/12 because i was on my hands and knees begging my mom to buy me the book. I have 9 series missing a book because they are hardcover, thus, more money :( So i got it yesterday and since i master reading and walking. i read it on the way home from the bookstore. I finished it at 1 in the morning and cried and almost yelled with excitement and anger cause it was the last book.

The best book!!! if you loved book one and two this will leave you breathless.

I am so disappointed in this book. I thought it would be as cool and epic and awesome as the two previous successors. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I do love the series a lot, and it'll always be known as one of my favorite book series of all times, but the last book of it kind of went down on my rating. There was almost no point in the entire book, and I might as well not even have read it becuase I already could tell what would have happened, but I was hoping that there might be some twists and I am so disappointed in this book. I thought it would be as cool and epic and awesome as the two previous successors. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I do love the series a lot, and it'll always be known as one of my favorite book series of all times, but the last book of it kind of went down on my rating. There was almost no point in the entire book, and I might as well not even have read it becuase I already could tell what would have happened, but I was hoping that there might be some twists and turns and surprises awaiting in this book. I was sadly mistaken. In this book, I found myself strangely growing an instant dislike towards Katniss. I had loved her in the first and second, but in the third, I see of her as weak, insensitive, helpless, and just the opposite of everything she was in the previous books. I truly could forgive some of the faults of the book if there weren't so many already, and by the end of the book I was pretty much disappointed. I am sorry, HG fans, but this is my true opinion and my true review:

When I said that I didn't like Katniss in MOCKINGJAY, I wasn't kidding, though I wish I was. I consider her one of the strongest, amazing, kick-ass, resoureful characters in history, but in this book all of those good traits about her that I soo love vanish into thin air. Yes, in this book, she still take care of her families, friends, people, and those who support her cause. When I found out she became the Mockingjay, I expected her to take up leadership and responsibility and give up her life for her people. Hell, I soo put my expectations soo high, and figured that Katniss would even grow more and more stronger than in the previous books. I don't know how I could have been more wrong.Surely people should think that if she became the Mockingjay, she'd be even more stronger, but I don't see how she could have grown more and more of the opposite. Katniss became so weak, hopeless, pessimistic, and helpless. Her friends and allies always seem to be the ones to rescue her from life-threatening situations, when I and others sort of expected her to be the one to take care of herself, given her history. But no! In this book, Katniss has to depend heavily -let me emphasize HEAVILY- on the people of District 13. Some of those people she doesn't even like or trust, and yet she still depend on them to save her. And throughout the book, Katniss doesn't seem to have a voice in what she wants, doesn't seem to have the freedom she needs. The people of District 13 boss her around, and thouh most people won't agree with me, I felt like everything Katniss has ever done in the book were based on what her allies want, and that is how the book got lower and lower on my rating.

Now, time to bitch about the love triangle. The HG must be one of THE worst love triangle in history!!!!!! Even when there's a war/rebellion going around and all the districts are at war and people are getting killed left and right, up and down, Suzanne Collins just had to have a love triangle mixed into the drama!!! I don't give a flying fuck about Katniss, Peeta, or Gale, and I wanted the book to be all about action, adventure, and war. And even though the book had that too, I was very extremely disappointed how a dumb horrible love triangle had to be mixed into the book. Not to mention it was done very poorly. I mean, Gale and Peeta are basically clones of each other. They have the same personality and same love interest. Although there are rare times in books when I didn't like either love interest in a love triangle, this book was one of the few exceptions. I barely gave a damn about who Katniss ended up with, or who she couldn't survive with, or who she loved more, or blah blah blah. Neither Gale now Peeta drove me crazy or made my stomach churn with their love confessions with Katniss, although I will say that in Catching Fire Peeta moved me to tears when he told Katniss he'd give up everything for her. Haymitch was right when he said that she could live a million lives and still not deserve Peeta. And while we're on that subject, might I point out how I believe that Katniss could very well be one of the worst love interest in any love triangle in history????!!!!! She lead them both on right from CF to Mockingjay. One day, she would be kissing passionately with Peeta, the next day she'd be declaring that she had feelings for Gale, the next she'd say that Peeta was the only person who truly understand all she's been through, and the next day she'd be sucking face with Gale, and then the whole pattern/love triangle would continue all over again. I seriously didn't want to read about any kissing, bantering, or love declaractions, but this book left me no choice but to go through and read all of that. It's one thing that two amazing, independent guys love you, but it's also another thing to go behind their backs and cheat on both of them and listen as they drone on and on and on about how much they love you and willing to risk their life for you and blah, blah, blah.

Yeah.

Moving forward!

I really hate the number of cassualties in this book. It seemed like everybody are dying left and right, up and down, sideways and vertical. Unlike other war fiction books, this one didn't even manage to bring a slight tear to my eyes (except for maybe Finnicks's death), mostly because I barely knew nor gave a rat's ass about any of the people who died, except for Finnick. To me, he was the only halo of light that stood out in the darkness that we call a book. He was awesome, cool, amazing, and beautfiul. Yes, they did describe him as the sex symbol of the Capital (lol). I think that's why I really love him-I'm a sucker for hot, seductive guys. But he was also witty, funny, and awesome. I felt that it was unfair of Collins' part in killing him off. He had just finally reunited and married with his long-lost love and then to have him killed off like that. I will admit, I did give in to a sob here and there. The pain and heartbreak of the characters who lost their loved ones due to war killed me badly, but I felt like they also shouldn't just mope around and cry, cry, cry. I felt like Katniss went far to kill President Coin (but I can understood why she would).It's just that I believe that when the person you love die, you have to move on with your life, not let it affect you so badly as far to go as killing that person's murderer, cause even if you think that avenging your loved ones will relieve the pain, you have to move on rather than bring yourself more pain.

Anyway, I felt for Katniss and what she had to go through, but the ending was memorable and special. It made me smile and think about what the rebels went through to fight for justice, and I'm glad Katniss chose Peeta over Gale, even though I'm not crazy about them. I thought ,at first, that Katniss should've been with Gale, but when I read (spoiler-spoiler!!) that Gale was half responsible for the death of Prim, I kinda lost faith in him and so did Katniss. So I'm very glad she chose Peeta. To me, he understands her better becuase he was the only other person around to know what it felt like to play the cruel rules of the Capital and its Hunger Games.:)

Out of the cons in this book, I will say I found one pro that is good enough to give this book a three stars. I liked the lesson that Mrs. Collins spoke loud and clear throughout the book. That darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light could do that (-Martin Luther King). That war is a crime, no matter how nessacary. That no matter which side win, there will never truly be any victors in combat because even cassualties can't make up for victories. I liked how thoughout,the entire book,there was always that tiny light of hope that someday the rebels will win and everybody can live in a better, freeer world. After all, without hope, where would we all be? I must admit that this book carried out one of the most promising, saddest lessons in life and death. That alone made me forgive some of the faults of the story, and if not for the ending and the lesson, I would have given this book one star instead of three lol.

In conclusion, I adore the series but dislike this book. It has its negative and positive views, but in the end the negative suceeds over the positives. I will say that I cannot seem to wait any longer for the movies to come out. Liam Hainesworth(the dude that's playing Gale) is hot btw. I think that there are a lot of talented actors and actresses on the set, and I'm 100% positive that The Hunger Games will inherit the Twilight throne. (: ...more
