This is a roller coaster journey for a young man named Trevor who falls from society’s grace due to excessive addiction. He finds himself in a struggle to regain a life he’s lost, but will he succeed without losing himself in the process? Tormenting memories from childhood with an addictive father and heartbreak from a lost love compound this man’s troubles, challenging his internal beliefs and his entire outlook on life.

Ryan Winfield brilliantly guides us through Trevor’s journey from the dept

This was a really good book. I really enjoyed it! First off, I'm a Sac State grad so I loved reading about the references in and around Sacramento. Second, I grew up in the East Bay (Area), so I could totally picture so much of what the author was writing. I don't think I've ever read a book that was so much like "my home" than this book! So all of that was really a neat read for me. I think Amazon's book description of this being an "erotic love story" isn't very accurate, in my opinion. But it ...more

I loved South of Bixby Bridge and here's why. Even though it was tough to read because of what the character of Trevor goes through, the story had a nice journey of hope, failure, degradation, and hope again. Ryan's voice and story telling techniques are unique which is a nice change. I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author. ...more

I really liked the depth of the book and the layers of the characters. I thought the hero's journey was creatively written and heartbreaking, and his redemption satisfying.

Two things I didn't like: I think labeling it erotic romance was a big stretch in the book description, but I enjoyed the book anyway. I would have liked quotation marks.

Warning: This novel is an unfiltered account of a young man's struggle to overcome addictions and it includes some graphic language, descriptive sexual scenes, and adult situations.

I usually don't post reviews necessarily, mostly because even if I snatch stolen pieces of time away from my own writing to read, I don't usually have time to also write a review, but this was an exception. I spent hours and days after reading this, still thinking about the story and the character and still crying

South of Bixby Bridge grabs your insides and takes you screaming along with lightening-fast intensity until the end... when you can finally breathe again. Ryan Winfield pours heart and soul into the story of Trevor and you can't help but connect with him on so many levels. I must say I fell in love as I was reading! Deeply emotional and unabashedly frank... wonderful storytelling by a tremendously talented writer. I highly recommend this book and just can't wait to read the next one! ...more

...The bus swerves on two wheels.
Crosses into the other lane.
Headlights, honking.
I rush to the front.
Leap for the wheel.
Grab it just in time.
Turn us back in to our lane.

Winfield's "South of Bixby Bridge" is a frenetic race to rock bottom, fueled by hard drugs, harder sex and the power ( or lack there of?) of money.
It's refreshing to read such a well written and well crafted storyline. I look forward to reading more from this fantastic new author in the future.

Personally, I loved the book. It held my interest and made me wish I could jump inside Trevor's life to shake some sense into him. It deals with serious issues...drug and alcohol addiction, child abuse, emotional instabilities that come from the previously mentioned occurences. This book is not for the faint of heart, but well worth it if you stick with it. Well done, Mr. Winfield! ...more

LOVED this book. I literally fell asleep with it in my hand and when I woke up I started back up where I left off until the book was finished. The main character, Trevor, was easy to root for even through his bad decisions and all his struggles. I wanted to reach in the book and hug him. If you read nothing else this year then read this book.

Ryan has written an enormously raw and gritty book about addiction, the road to recovery, and those kinks in the road called life. Don't overlook this b/c some might say it's just too 'much' to read, get this book b/c it shows you just how beautiful and ever-changing life is.

I loved this book. Trevor is a great character and I wanted him to be okay from the beginning. Even when he did things that would make me not like him, I still did. Great Job. The descriptions of emotions, people, and places were just so beautifully written. The words were so lush and vivid that I couldn't put the book down. ...more

An ad for this book popped up on FB and it was one of the cheaper e-books. It is well written (especially compared to Fifty Shades of Grey that I had just finished when I got this book), though a bit predictable.

It was amazing; loved the surreal-ness of the drug use and of course the sex/drugs/rock n roll. I loved the flaws in the main character and of course his eventual redemption.
