How I got this book:
Since I pay close attention to this topic for a longer time now, I thought I might start reading a fiction book covering it. Well, and there was a very cheap offer at Rebuy (German online secondhand shop), so I couldn't resist.

A fascinating coming of age tale regarding an intersex child. Tarttelin's story is quite simple on the surface, but she masterfully turns up the tension in each chapter. I was reading the book with my stomach and jaw clenched as she examined themes of creation/ownership, privacy / information, and the ubiquitous presence of gender confrontation.

Max ist der Junge von nebenan. Er kommt mit jedem gut aus, ist beliebt bei den Mädchen in der Schule, schreibt gute Noten und ist ein Star im Fußballteam. Doch so normal Max auch scheint, er seine Besonderheit hält er geheim. Max ist Intersex! Ein fataler Abend und Max's Welt und die seiner Familie wird auf den Kopf gestellt.
