This autobiography follows Fenelon's transition from a singer in France to a member of the women's orchestra at Auschwitz.
Through her eyes the reader sees the horrors of the concentration camp as well as the privileges that some prisoners were given. Members of the orchestra were better fed and were not forced to do manual labor. Instead they must play happy tunes as their fellow prisoners march off to work and perform for their captors.
A truly moving book.
