The House at Riverton was enjoyable enough, but it failed to grip me. I think one of the issues was the fact that I didn't see the need for the modern day part of the story. Okay, it sets up her retelling of events in the past as she seeks to release a secret she's held for so long, but that could have been done in other ways. I thought the setting of Riverton around World War I. In many ways it reminded me a bit of Downton Abbey (which I love), but it felt like there was less closeness with the characters. There was a lot of foreshadowing in here, but the mystery was slowly unravelled.

Loved this Gothic page turner about an old woman who is asked to recollect her days as a house maid at the grand estate of Riverton, where a famous scandal occurred during the 1920’s, by a young filmmaker.
