Jemma Dalton arrived at her sister’s apartment in Melbourne just as the manager was leaving for the night. Frantically she scrambled from the taxi and racing over to intercept him, successfully gained access to the apartment. Tanya Clark’s body had been found just recently, and Jemma couldn’t believe it when they had told her her sister had committed suicide. Tanya had found her fiancé's body two months previously; a death which had thrown Tanya’s life into chaos. Apparently she had been unable to cope with the loss of Sean under such dreadful circumstances and had ended her own life.

Totally disbelieving of the verdict, Jemma travelled to Melbourne from her home town of Perth to dig into the circumstances of her sister’s death. She left with her own romance in tatters as well; Ross, her boyfriend, had left her to work in the mines and she felt he had let her down – she wouldn’t see him for weeks on end, and that was no way to live she felt.

As Jemma began to delve into Tanya’s life and death, many inconsistencies began to show. The coroner’s report showed Tanya to be six weeks pregnant – but Sean had died two months prior to Tanya? Tanya’s boss was also the owner of the apartment; he was an extremely wealthy man whom Jemma didn’t like or trust. She also met Ashley, who had loved Tanya but it was unrequited. And Chris, the policeman who had been on the scene at Sean’s death, and had also been a friend of Tanya’s. All of these people seemed to have something to hide – could she find out what they were?

Things were heating up, the danger to her seemed to be escalating, but Jemma couldn’t work out why. She had no idea whom she could trust – suddenly her paranoia was real. Was her investigation going to be the death of her too? Was she to be the third victim in this strange scenario of suicides – or were they murders?

Another gripping murder mystery from Aussie author Vicki Tyley! The characters are well-developed, the plot intriguing, and the twist at the end shocked me – I definitely didn’t see it coming! I can’t wait to get stuck into her next one! Highly recommended.
