The memories quickly hit her as she drove into the town; her best friend, nine-year-old Megan, the fun they used to have at school every day, then suddenly Megan was gone – kidnapped from the bus after school – the grief was still with her as Megan had never been found. Making her way to Megan’s childhood home, “The Narrows”, she surprised Heather Wantage, Megan’s Mum. Her delight in seeing Kate was gratifying; the years since she had seen her made Kate feel guilty. When Ken arrived home, he too was thrilled to see Kate.

When Kate was offered the position of carer out at old Harry Quickly’s property, Rosebud Farm, Kate accepted gratefully. She had had no idea how she was going to manage, and she certainly couldn’t go back home. Her mother and brother had never been close to her, they only looked out for each other. She had been frightened of Doug as a child and she had no desire to see him now.

As Kate settled into her new life, the past decided to put in an appearance. Suddenly the stories she had always believed were being tested; she was becoming more confused each day. With her new friend Max helping her, she decided the secrets needed to be brought out into the open. Would Kate finally find out the truth about Megan’s disappearance all those years ago? With murder, bushfires, and danger everywhere, where could Kate turn? Kate knew there was evil pursuing her...

This was a wonderful book. It certainly took me by surprise as I thought it was going to be the normal “rural romance”, but it’s not, it’s a “romantic suspense” with more of the suspense. The plot was excellent, while the twists and pace kept me glued to the pages until the very finish. Another great Aussie author I will be keeping my eye on. Highly recommended.

Kates' marriage and job have failed so she heads back to the only other place she's ever called home to a family that didn't miss her and a 20 year old mystery.

This was such a good read and an unexpected one for me. I haven't read a lot of Aussie authors and I'm now thinking I might need to read more because the last few I have read have been great. Malle Sky was a great Aussie book that reminded me of a time before people were chained to their mobile phones and social media. I loved that even ...more
