Murder and mayhem during the Australian electoral campaign see Detective Glass face adversity in ways he could only imagine. This blend of satire and murder mystery works well as Cotton thrusts the reader into the world of politics and crime. The balance of a light hearted, semi serious look at detective work and the media ensures DEAD CAT BOUNCE doesn’t take itself too seriously, rather focusing on a means to provide an entertaining form of escapism deep in the Australian capital.

It is the eve of the Federal Election in Australia and one of the current Government’s star performing Ministers has just turned up dead in Lake Burley Griffin in the nation’s capital Canberra. Average read. Seemed designed for American readers, otherwise why use American terms when it's set in Australia (eg hood instead of bonnet). I guessed who was responsible for the murder/disappearances - no surprise there. Still not certain what cats had to do with it, unless the author dislikes cats and wanted an excuse to kill a few. I guess he wanted it to be a literal interpretation of the financial term in the title but even that seemed pointless. ...more
