I might not have picked this up, except that my husband enjoyed it so much. It was a good call, because I loved it. This is the most unusual book I've read in ages. I don't usually like present tense novels, but I didn't even notice the tense.

Glorious. The plaudits are justified, a beautifully written, well paced novel, which covers adolescent adventure, friendships & romance, as well as topics such as abuse, racism and injustice. The characterisation is suberb, and the teenage banter between Charlie and Jeffery is wonderful, while Silvey throws readers into the troubles of small town Australia, a place I know nothing of.

Jasper Jones is currently screening in Australian movie theatres. Before I go and see it, I thought I should read the book (since I almost always prefer the book a movie is based on). I’ll be honest, I hadn’t seen, read, or heard much about Jasper Jones, only that it was a great book. So without really knowing what I was in for, I started to read.
