I might not have picked this up, except that my husband enjoyed it so much. It was a good call, because I loved it. This is the most unusual book I've read in ages. I don't usually like present tense novels, but I didn't even notice the tense.

Amazing. Pitifully and beautifully flawed characters. This small community represents us all, the kindness, the sweetness and the ugly fear. Themes based on To Kill a Mockingbird, but the plotline is quite different. This is a unique story with many depths and angles and many, many messages. The underlying theme I take away is those people that stand by and do nothing when evil is being committed are no more innocent than the perpetrator.

Another book of young men coming to age in Australia - seems to be a bit of a theme I am following at the moment. A great story of racial judgement, living outside your fears and comradeship. The characters are all lovable and there are moments when you want to laugh out loud as well as moments where your heart is hurting.

This book is interesting. I liked it while I was reading it, but when I'd stop it wasn't easy to pick it back up again.
