This story is the sequel to Treespeaker, which I loved, so I was keen to read this one and it didn’t disappoint!
Song of the Jikhoshi began twelve years after Treespeaker finished, with young Zanarr, the adopted son of ex-Treespeaker Jakan (now Chief Elder) as one of the main characters. At twelve years of age, Zanarr was shocked and afraid when he discovered he had a magic power…he was being teased, and when he became angry a fireball was released, which hit his young tormenter in the chest.
