Before reading this book, I had never realised just how badly off Singapore was during WWII so that was an interesting facet of the story.
I had mixed feelings about this book. I didn't like the main character, Victoria, for the most part. She thought she was in love with the boy next door and, despite his not returning her advances and even bringing a fiance back from England, she kept on and on about how she knew him best of anyone and they were meant to be together.
