I've just noticed that a group I'm in is reading this as a buddy read, and a lot of the story suddenly popped into my head, so it obviously made an impression. Unfortunately, I read it before I started writing reviews (which I do to remind myself of a book as much to share ideas with others), so I have nothing to add except that I remember enjoying it - a lot.

The Secret Keeper is the fourth novel from popular Australian author Kate Morton, whose previous books such as the The House At Riverton and The Forgotten Garden, have enjoyed international success.

In the Secret Keeper, Morton grabs the reader's attention with the first chapter as sixteen year old Laurel witnesses a tragic altercation between her mother and a stranger. Nearly fifty years later Laurel's latent curiosity prompts her to investigate Dorothy's past, inspired by an inscription in a c

Kate Morton is one of the most consistent authors I read, as in consistent excellence. As with her previous tales, Morton has created a story with twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of the seat trying to determine the outcome. The Secret Keeper is aptly titled. It is deliciously filled with the secrets of a lifetime, starting with Dorothy Nicolson's life in war-torn London during WWII and the discovery of inconsistencies by her daughter Laurel 50 years later. Laurel has kept her o ...more

I've been a fan of Australian author Kate Morton since reading (and adoring) The Forgotten Garden and I was super excited to get my hands on a copy of her latest novel. A few chapters in I confess I struggled to stay focused as the narrative wandered off on what seemed like tangent after tangent. This isn't a book to read in small snippets, if you can invest a chunk of time to thoroughly immerse yourself in the story and just appreciate the meandering style I'd almost guarantee you'll b

This is my first time venturing into the world of Kate Morton and, based on this experience, I would definitely do so again.

Morton's prose style is addictive, the story weaving here and there in a way that at first seems pointless or confused, but which, by the end, makes perfect sense as all those loose ends are neatly tied up in a very satisfying conclusion.

Her characters really do come to life on the page and the reader is absolutely drawn into their world and their stories. The shifting betw

I had read one Kate Morton novel previously and I enjoyed the read. This book was in some ways a disappointment. I was all of a quarter through the book and the light bulb went on and I knew exactly where this was going. I am not going to spoil for anyone but for me it was way too obvious.

I like Morton's writing style, it is a bit like comfort food as you can wallow yourself in this rather guilty pleasure. The characters are well realised but I just did not find this group as endearing. Laurel

Giving away 3 Uncorrected Proofs to Aussies on my blog - open until 28/10/2012

My reaction at the end of chapter 1:

*GASP*

*No, she did not just do that!!?!?*

*flicked the page*

*Yes, she did… Golly!*

And with that, I’ve bitten the bait, was totally hooked and reeled through the story.

Due to some personal issue, I am not a fan of The Forgotten Garden. I am very sensitive about it and would usually avoid a story that’s blatantly obvious that’s where it was going. With The Forgotten Garden though, I was
